Harkwell Labels, has recently taken delivery of two new finishing machines from A B Graphic International (ABG). Following an ongoing period of growth, the investment increases our impressive line-up of ABG machines to seven.
The new arrivals include an additional Digicon Series 3 - ABG’s flagship machine - which includes a screen printing unit and thermal lamination module, and a Digicon Lite SR. The move, will allow us to keep pace with continued customer demands, follows recent purchases of a second screen unit on an existing Digicon Series 3 and our first Digicon Lite - a machine specifically made for shorter runs and aimed at increasing job flexibility. Tim Fountain, Harkwell Labels owner and managing director, said: “Having moved into a purpose-built factory in 2016 to keep up with demands capacity, our growth has continued into 2020. We see the increase in our customer base is testament to the ongoing quality of our work. Harkwell chose ABG’s Digicon Series 3 to offer our customers the highest level of embellishment and finishing capabilities - particularly important for our customers in the vaping and pharmaceutical markets.” Commenting on the new investment, Mark Hyde, ABG’s UK sales manager, said: “Seeing Harkwell grow and develop over the years has been a pleasure. We have a lot of shared values and it’s great to see that our future proofing ethos has allowed them to add modules as and when required. “We appreciate that this increased flexibility, as well as the capabilities of our finishing equipment, are the key reasons for their continued investment in ABG equipment and we look forward to seeing the impact of these machines on quality and future business growth.”

At this year's Dscoop EMEA event, HP and Dscoop celebrated excellence in design and print achieved using HP Indigo, PageWide Web Press or Scitex technology.
PSPs were invited to send their best work to a regional competition, which was judged by a local jury. A total of 16 awards were presented to 13 customers and designers in multiple categories across general commercial printing and labels and packaging. Nearly 200 entries from more than 75 customers and designers were submitted to the Inkspiration competition overall. In the UK, the regional winners included Harkwell Labels for the Bude Brewery labels printed on an HP WS6800 on a silver substrate, Foxpak Flexibles for the Bake It Easy cookie mix pouches printed on an HP Indigo 20000 and Kalas Packaging for the Vanilla Reindeer personalised gift bags and cartons produced on the HP Indigo 30000. Eticod in Poland won the overall EMEA Labels category for its OX Ris Labels on Wood campaign. The labels were printed on Fasson cherry wood on an HP Indigo 6600 to complement the oak-infused beer. The varied structure of the substrate made each of the 1500 labels unique in appearance. Dars 91 from Bulgaria picked up the folding carton award for its use of natural cork lamination for Gekko alcohol boxes, while the flexible packaging winner was Uni Packaging (France) for the Kopo Vegesens pouches. Using the new technology, it is able to offer high build embellishments legally required on many products in the vaping, pharma, agriculture and automotive markets, amongst many others.
Harkwell Labels is the first in the UK with the new module, and Tim Harkwell, the printer's managing director said: ‘As labeling regulations become ever more stringent we feel this investment from AB Graphic will allow us competitive advantage by offering rotary screen prices with minimal set-up fees using flat screens. ‘In addition, we’ll be able to offer "jump off the shelf" embellishments in silk screen attracting the beverage, cosmetics and other high value product markets. We will also be able to produce vibrant high impact colours that neither digital or flexo are able to achieve.’ Launched at Labelexpo Europe 2017, the upgraded screen printing module allows what used to be the slowest module on a finishing machine to double its speed and offers numerous benefits to operators. AB Graphic sales director Tony Bell said: ‘We had fantastic response at Labelexpo and since then have received multiple enquiries and orders for the module. With a larger print and repeat area, increased speed and improved UV curing ensuring consistency along the whole web, we are confident this is the best solution for screen in the finishing market.’ Harkwell recently received the news of Zero to Landfill once again for the second year running.
